What should I expect during my first visit?

During your first visit, one of our HK registered physiotherapists, or massage therapists or physical therapists will conduct a comprehensive assessment to understand your specific needs and develop a personalized treatment plan. This may include a physical evaluation, review of your medical history, and discussion of your goals. After this assessment section, treatment will commence, and depending on how the treatment goes, personalized self-care instructions will be demonstrated for you to do at home.

How long are the treatment sessions?

Physiotherapy sessions typically last 45-60 minutes, while massage therapy sessions can range from 45 minutes to 120 minutes, depending on your needs and preferences.

How often should I come in for treatment?

The frequency of your visits will depend on your specific condition and treatment plan. Your therapist will discuss the recommended schedule with you, which may involve 1-3 sessions per week/ per month, depending on the severity of your issue and your progress.

What should I wear to my appointment?

For physiotherapy, please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows access to the area being treated. For massage therapy, you can wear loose, comfortable clothing or come in your street clothes, as most people remove their clothing and are covered with linens and blanket during the session.

Will I receive a receipt for my treatment? And do you accept my insurance card as form of payment?

Yes, you will receive a receipt after your treatment and once payment has been processed. Unfortunately, we do not accept insurance cards or offer direct billing at our clinic. However, you can submit your receipt to your health insurance for potential reimbursement. Since reimbursement policies vary by provider, we recommend checking with your insurance company before booking your treatment to confirm coverage for services like massage therapy or physiotherapy, as well as their claims process. For Physiotherapy treatments, you would be booking in with either Wendy or Thomas only.

Can I submit my receipts for reimbursement with my insurance company?

Yes, you can submit your receipts to your insurance provider to try for reimbursement. It’s important to check with your insurance company regarding their reimbursement policies and requirements before booking your appointment. They will provide you with information whether your chosen manual therapy is covered, instructions on how to submit your receipts and any additional documentation they may require. Given that each insurance policy varies, we are unable to provide guidance on your specific coverage or accept responsibility for any denied claims. Our clinic’s policy is payment upon receiving treatment after each session, and receipts for respective services will be provided after the treatment is complete. Example: if you come for a physiotherapy session, you will receive a receipt with ‘physiotherapy service’ and the duration on the e-receipt.

Pregnancy / Prenatal & Postnatal Massage Therapy Information

What should I look for in a prenatal massage therapist?

It is essential to choose a therapist with specialized training in prenatal techniques. They should possess a thorough understanding of the physical and emotional changes that occur during pregnancy and be adept at modifying their techniques to ensure your comfort and safety.

What are the benefits of prenatal massage?

Prenatal massage offers numerous advantages, including relief from discomfort in areas such as the neck, shoulders, back, hips, and pelvis. It can also alleviate swelling, particularly in the face, hands, legs, and feet, while promoting relaxation and improving circulation. Additionally, it may enhance sleep quality and provide a valuable opportunity for personal time prior to the arrival of your baby.

Is prenatal massage safe throughout my entire pregnancy?

Yes, prenatal massage is safe during all trimesters when conducted by a qualified professional. While it is permissible to receive a massage in the first trimester, those who feel anxious may choose to wait until the second trimester. It is important to communicate any concerns and health changes with your therapist, enabling them to adjust their techniques accordingly. The primary objective is to ensure a comfortable and effective massage experience throughout your pregnancy.

Are there specific techniques used in prenatal massage?

Certainly. Common techniques include Swedish massage, with a focus on areas such as the neck, shoulders, lower back, hips, and legs. Therapists at Urban Motion are particularly skilled at alleviating sciatic pain and pelvic pressure. They also provide breast massage to relieve engorgement during pregnancy and postpartum. For enhanced comfort, they utilize pregnancy pillows that allow you to lie face-down, which can be particularly beneficial as your body changes.

How long does a typical prenatal massage session last?

Sessions generally last between 60 to 90 minutes. At Urban Motion, each session is customized to meet your specific needs, and clients receive expert guidance on self-care exercises and stretches to practice at home.

Can I continue massage therapy after giving birth?

Yes, postnatal massage is highly beneficial for recovery, tension relief, and emotional well-being. Labor can be physically demanding, and a skilled massage can aid in restoring your sense of self. Techniques, pressure, and areas of focus may be adjusted based on your recovery, particularly if you experienced a vaginal or cesarean birth.

What should I wear for a prenatal massage?

Comfort is paramount. While loose clothing is acceptable, many clients opt to undress to their underwear to fully experience the therapeutic benefits. Ultimately, the most important consideration is your comfort level.

How often should I get a prenatal or postnatal massage?

The frequency of sessions varies based on individual needs and lifestyle. Some women benefit from weekly sessions, while others may prefer biweekly or monthly visits. As pregnancy progresses and discomfort increases, more frequent sessions can provide significant relief.

What if I have specific medical concerns?

It is imperative to discuss any medical concerns with your therapist prior to the session. They will consider your medical history and tailor the massage to ensure it is both safe and beneficial for you.
